I received a kidney transplant in August 2014. I’ve always been passionate about football, and in March 2023, I came across a transplant football tournament being held in Birmingham through my volunteer role at Kidney Care UK. I didn’t have a team, but that didn’t stop me. I turned up and was placed in a team for the day. It turned out to be a fantastic experience where I met other transplant recipients who also shared a love for the game. That day really sparked something in me, and by May 2024, we decided to form our own Birmingham transplant team.

One of the biggest highlights for me so far has been winning the gold medal at the British Transplant Games with Birmingham in August 2024. It was an incredible achievement, especially for such a newly formed team, and something I’ll never forget. Another major highlight has been the opportunity to play against national sides like Scotland and Wales. Competing at that level really made me feel proud of how far we’ve come in such a short time.

Looking ahead, one of my main goals is to one day represent the England national transplant team. That would be a huge honour and a dream come true. Alongside that, I’m passionate about raising awareness of transplant sport within the Sikh community. I want to help change mindsets and show that life after transplant doesn’t have to be limiting. You can still chase goals, stay active, and achieve amazing things.

To anyone thinking about getting into transplant sport, I would absolutely say go for it! You’ll have loads of fun, stay fit, and meet people who truly understand your journey. It’s a great way to connect, share experiences, and build lasting friendships. For me, it’s ticked all the boxes and given me a new sense of purpose and community.
